The Ashden India Renewable Energy Collective (AIREC) is constituted by the India-based winners of the prestigious International Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy. The Ashden Awards are given to organizations working on pro-poor sustainable energy solutions for energy access. The Ashden India Renewable Energy Collective was formally established as a Section 25 Company in February 2013. The members of the Collective are practitioners with rich experience in diverse fields of decentralized renewable energy and energy efficiency. In a short time, the Collective has engaged with decision makers, both at the central and local levels, in informing and influencing policies on renewable energy.

Job Summary:
The Research Associate (RA) will provide operational support to the Chief Operating Officer, AIREC in the “Cooking Energy Project” and in other functions of the Collective. The RA will be required to work on large data sets, conduct field-based surveys and qualitative discussions with stakeholders, prepare reports and coordinate activities, as required from time to time. The position involves extensive travel to various locations across the country. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to gain experience of working on large, energy access-related social research and advisory projects.

Essential Functions:
The Research Associate will perform the following key functions:
♦Coordination of projects activities including client liaison, coordination with field, data and support teams
♦ Manage project with active involvement in the following:
o Development, pre-testing and finalization of data collection instruments and protocols
o Carrying out field-based surveys and discussions
o Engage in stakeholder consultations and coordination for learning events
o Contribute to project learnings with respect to:
∼ Analyse data from stove monitoring devices and field partners
∼ Document best practices and other learning case studies
∼ Develop project reports at regular intervals
♦Ensure minimum response time to clients and other partners on project deliverables
♦Support the Members engagement and Communications related activities at the Collective
♦Understanding of and comfort in handling social media
♦Other functions or activities to support the COO in carrying out regular functions of the      Collective


Post-graduation in Environment / Energy / Management / Rural Development / Social Sciences / Social Work / Economics or related discipline.

♦ 2-4 years’ experience in social/development research-based projects
♦ Prior experience of using both quantitative and qualitative research tools for social research

Required Competencies:
♦ Proficiency in handling and analysing large data sets (comfortable with usage of tools such as SPSS, STATA, EXCEL etc.)
♦Experience of conducting qualitative research using tools like Focus Group Discussions, Stakeholder Consultations, In-depth interviews, informal interactions and Case Study documentation
♦ Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
♦ Ability to connect with varied stakeholders and engage in productive dialogues for the project
♦ Willingness to travel extensively to rural areas
♦ High level of involvement, engagement and ownership
